This release was issued under a previous government.

National Child Abuse Prevention Month offers a reminder to all Albertans to recognize the signs of child abuse and neglect, and to report any incident in which they believe a child or youth may need help.

“All Albertans have a responsibility to protect our children. Make the call that will enable a family to get the help and support it needs.”

Irfan Sabir, Minister, Human Services

Learn the Signs

There are many signs of child abuse or neglect. A child who is abused may:

  • appear to be continually hungry, dirty or unsuitably dressed for the weather;
  • be withdrawn or aggressive; or
  • have unexplained bruises or injuries.
