Minimum wage goes up Oct 1, 2015

Alberta’s general minimum wage will increase from $10.20 to $11.20 per hour. The liquor server minimum wage will rise from $9.20 to $10.70 per hour, and will be eliminated next year.

“Increasing minimum wages will help low-income earners take care of their families, and will reduce staff turnover, lower hiring costs, and improve fairness. Minimum wage earners spend more of their income, boosting the economy and creating jobs.”

Lori Sigurdson, Minister of Jobs, Skills, Training and Labour

The increases are the first step towards a single $15 per hour minimum wage.

Weekly and monthly minimum wages are increasing as well.

The weekly minimum wage for some salespersons, land agents and other professionals will rise from $406 to $446. The monthly minimum wage for domestic employees who live in the employer’s residence will rise from $1,937 to $2,127.
