John Heaney, who has been in a temporary position as Acting Associate Deputy Minister of Policy and Planning since May, has been appointed Deputy Minister of the Policy Co-ordination Office.

Shannon Marchand will move from his current role as Deputy Chief of Policy Co-ordination within Executive Council to Deputy Minister of Seniors.

Ernie Hui has been appointed to a new special advisory role on water quality. Hui, the Deputy Minister at Seniors since September 2014 and previously the Deputy Minister of Environment and Water, will support the Minister of Environment and Parks.

All moves are effective August 17, 2015.

Bio: John Heaney
Since May 2015, John Heaney has been working in an acting capacity as Associate Deputy Minister, Policy and Planning, Executive Council - working with the Premier, cabinet and the public service on implementing the government’s policy priorities and advising on policy development and co-ordination processes. John is a former deputy minister to the premier and Secretary to Cabinet Planning and Priorities in British Columbia, serving as chief policy and legislative advisor to the premier and cabinet. Prior to May 2015, John lived in Alberta for more than 12 years.

Bio: Shannon Marchand
Shannon Marchand joined the Alberta Public Service in 1996 and over the last 20 years has held progressively responsible positions in the areas of intergovernmental relations, immigration, human services and culture. Since January, he has served as Deputy Chief of the Policy Co-ordination Office, and prior to that was an Assistant Deputy Minister with Alberta Culture.

Bio: Ernie Hui
Ernie Hui has held a variety of senior leadership roles in the Alberta Public Service, including CEO of Environmental Monitoring, Deputy Minister of Environment and Water, and most recently Deputy Minister of Seniors. He also served as Director of the Drinking Water Branch within Alberta Environment, and as a regional director for the ministry.
