Cabins in Alberta’s provincial parks are proving to be a popular option for campers
The cabins will be equipped with basic amenities such as beds, tables and chairs, in addition to exterior features like fire pits and benches. There will be no running water or electricity.
“The cabins will be a unique addition to the region and allow for year-round access for families and outdoor enthusiasts. By building in the frontcountry location we will maintain and preserve the park’s natural backcountry experience, which Albertans told us is important.”
The cabins were initially proposed for the backcountry area of Lakeland Provincial Park, but public consultation revealed a preference to locate the cabins in the established provincial recreation area.
Lakeland Provincial Recreation Area is located between the communities of Athabasca and Cold Lake.
Alberta Parks offers a variety of unique camping units throughout the province. Yurts at Pigeon Lake, canvas-style wall tents at Writing-on-Stone, and cabins at Sir Winston Churchill provincial parks are popular choices for campers of all experience levels.
The ready-made camping option is especially appealing to people who want to get a taste of camping in the great outdoors before purchasing tents, trailers and related equipment.
Upon completion, the Lakeland cabins will be added to Alberta Parks’ Reserve.AlbertaParks.ca online reservation system.
