National Aboriginal Day - June 21

On Thursday, June 18, Alberta is helping kick off National Aboriginal Day with a noon-hour celebration at Edmonton City Centre. Kathleen Ganley, Minister of Aboriginal Relations, will attend the event. The festivities include performances by members of the Aboriginal community of Alberta.

“I encourage Albertans to participate in the celebrations honouring the First Nations, Metis and Inuit peoples of Alberta. Strong indigenous communities are vital to building a more prosperous, caring, inclusive province.”

Kathleen Ganley, Minister of Aboriginal Relations

In 1996, the Government of Canada declared June 21 to be National Aboriginal Day to honour the contributions of First Nations, Metis and Inuit people. On that day, Canadians celebrate the unique history, culture and heritage of Aboriginal communities.
