This release was issued under a previous government.

Construction crews are repairing damage to the Highway 2A overpass, which was struck by a high load in 2014. Weather permitting, the project should be completed by the end of July.

This is the first of several full nighttime weekend closures of southbound traffic at Exit 516 in Leduc. Notification of future closures will be noted on electronic signage on the QE II.

Detour

Southbound:

From 8 p.m. on Saturday, May 16, to 10 a.m. on Sunday, May 17, southbound motorists will be detoured to Millet on Highway 2A. At Millet, the traffic will be detoured back to the QE II Highway using Highway 616.

Long Combination Vehicles (LCVs) over 90 per cent load will be detoured to Wetaskiwin on Highway 2A. At Wetaskiwin, LCVs will be detoured back to QE II using Highway 13.

Northbound:

Traffic will remain open with speed and width reductions in the construction zone.

  • Drivers are reminded to obey all flag persons, signs and signals.
  • Fines for speeding are doubled in construction zones.
