To help reduce the risk of a landslide on Highway 41 near Kehewin Lake, a 75 per cent road ban is now in place. Highway 41 is part of the High Load Corridor serving the Bonnyville/Cold Lake area.
Road bans are put in place to protect existing infrastructure or to protect new infrastructure that has not yet been completed to the point where it has reached its full strength.
Alberta Transportation is working with stakeholders to examine what options are available in the short and the long terms – and how quickly one or more of them can be put in place.
It is anticipated that the ban will be in place until autumn when frost sets back in.
