This release was issued under a previous government.

Christenson Communities has received funds from the Affordable Supportive Living Initiative (ASLI) to build an 18-unit addition to its Valleyview continuing care facility.

“I'm very excited to have these additional supportive living beds in Valleyview, and safer seniors facilities in Grande Prairie. Keeping our loved ones in our community is paramount to a healthy community and this announcement will fill a tremendous need in our region. I would like to thank Premier Jim Prentice for his outstanding vision in supporting rural Alberta.”

Everett McDonald, MLA for Grande Prairie-Smoky

ASLI funds have also been awarded to Hythe and District Pioneer Homes to begin immediate construction on a 48-bed continuing care facility in Hythe.

“Providing our seniors appropriate levels of care, in the communities they helped build, is a priority for our government. The facility in Hythe will help ensure grandparents can stay connected with their families and friends, even as their care needs change.”

Wayne Drysdale, MLA for Grande Prairie-Waipiti

As well, Wildrose Manor, Heritage Lodge and Pioneer Lodge in Grande Prairie will receive sprinkler and fire system upgrades, ensuring they meet current building safety codes.

An ASLI Request for Proposals (RFP) was issued by government in fall 2014 that specifically targeted areas of the province that showed a need for supportive living spaces. The goal is to ensure that those who are no longer able to stay at home will have choices in their own communities that support their independence and provide the care they need, with their families and friends close by.

Supportive living is designed for people whose care needs mean they are no longer able to stay in their own homes. Residents have their own private rooms, meals, housekeeping, and 24-7 professional nursing care services, depending on their care needs.
