The expansion is part of the province’s flood mitigation strategy and will increase the area of the reservoir from six to almost nine square kilometres, flooding the existing recreation area and requiring it to be relocated east of its current location.

Work is expected to begin late September 2014 and take two years to complete at a cost of approximately $37 million.

“Alberta is preparing for future flood events. These upgrades will allow for coordinated control of water levels in the Little Bow and Travers Reservoirs, helping us be even better prepared to meet future challenges promptly and effectively.”

Wayne Drysdale, Minister of Transportation

The government  will host an information session on Thursday, August 21 from 3  to 7 p.m. at the Lomond Community Centre, 125 - 1st Street North, Lomond to advise the public of the closure and relocation of the existing PRA.
