This release was issued under a previous government.

Beginning August 13, workers will cold-mill and repave westbound lanes on Highway 43. This project will repair frost heave damage to the highway and provide smoother travel for Albertans. This approximately $8.5 million project should be completed by mid-October, weather permitting.

August 13 to mid-October

Westbound traffic will be reduced to one lane on Highway 43 between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. until repairs are complete. Speed will be reduced to 50 km/h in the construction zone. Wide loads will be accommodated but may experience delays. Depending on traffic, motorists should expect minor delays.

Additional information

  • Fines for speeding double in construction zones.
  • Motorists are reminded to obey all flag persons, signs and signals and watch for construction equipment.
  • Frost heaves are common throughout Alberta.
  • Due to local soil conditions in the Bezanson area, the problem is magnified.
  • The variation in Alberta temperature causes the heaves to occur and adds to highway damage; the cold causes cracking, while the warm wet summers cause these cracks to absorb water and subsequently swell and heave at crack locations.
