The correctional peace officers who failed to ensure the remanded individual remained in their secure custody have been disciplined.
Late in the day on May 6 a remanded individual escaped from secure custody while at the University of Alberta hospital for medical treatment. He did not leave hospital property during this time and was returned to custody early the next day.
An investigation determined that existing procedures, processes and protocols were not followed, and had they been the incident could have been prevented.
No further details of the investigation by the Justice and Solicitor General department will be released due to security considerations, and specific details of the disciplinary action will not be provided due to privacy considerations.
