Westbound Highway 16 travel will be reduced to one lane and speed reduced to 50 km/h while workers are on site, seven days a week. Daytime travel is not expected to be impacted on either highway. The work, five kilometres west of Edmonton, is scheduled for completion by the end of August.

Repairs

The damage was discovered in the fall of 2013 although the vehicle that caused the damage has not been identified.

Final repairs were delayed until the warmer summer weather arrived.

The repairs to structural steel are expected to cost about $300,000.

  • Motorists are reminded that speed fines double when workers are in construction zones, and are asked to adhere to the posted speed limits, while obeying all traffic signs and flag persons.
