Family Fishing Weekend: July 12-13 2014

Family Fishing weekends allow Albertans to enjoy a favourite pastime without buying a licence.

For Albertans and visitors who have never fished, July 12 and 13 will allow them to give it a try, licence free on water bodies with open fishing seasons (not in national parks).

While licences will not be required for this period, all other fishing regulations will be in effect and enforced.

“Fishing is a great family activity that connects children with nature and lets families enjoy our province’s beautiful landscape. As an avid angler who enjoys taking family and friends to my favourite fishing holes, I encourage all Albertans to take advantage of this great opportunity."

Robin Campbell, Minister of Environment and Sustainable Resource Development

Alberta has approximately 166 stocked water bodies for anglers to enjoy. They are frequently stocked with brook trout, brown trout or cutthroat trout.
