Yellowhead Closures

Workers will close Yellowhead Trail eastbound Friday June 27 from 8 p.m. to Saturday, June 28, 10 a.m. and Saturday, June 28, 6 p.m. to Sunday, June 29, 10 a.m. On Saturday, westbound Yellowhead Trail will also be reduced to one lane.

Westbound Yellowhead Trail will be closed and eastbound Yellowhead Trail will be reduced to one lane Sunday June 29, 6 p.m. to Monday June 30, 5:30 a.m. and Monday June 30, 8 p.m. to Tuesday July 1, 8 a.m.

These closures will allow crews to install girders at a bridge in the new Yellowhead Interchange currently under construction.

Anthony Henday and Sherwood Park Freeway Closures

Workers will close the interchange at Anthony Henday Drive and Sherwood Park Freeway Saturday, June 28 at 6 p.m. to Sunday June 29 at 8 a.m. This closure will allow a new bridge deck to be poured at this interchange as part of the Northeast Anthony Henday project. 

Anthony Henday Drive Detours

Northbound and southbound thru traffic on Anthony Henday Drive will detour via the Sherwood Park Freeway ramps, then back onto Anthony Henday Drive.

  • Northbound traffic needing to access westbound Sherwood Park Freeway will detour through Whitemud Drive and 17 Street or Baseline Road and 17 Street
  • Southbound traffic needing to access eastbound Wye Road will detour through Baseline Road and Broadmoor Boulevard or Whitemud Drive and Range Road 233.

Henday Drive Detour - June 28

Wye Road westbound closed at Sherwood Drive

  • Local access will be provided during the closure
  • Westbound traffic will be detoured through Sherwood Drive and Baseline Road or Whitemud Drive.

Wye Road westbound closed at Ordze Road

  • No traffic will be permitted west of Ordze Road.
  • Westbound traffic will be detoured to Sherwood Drive through Ordze Road and Fir Street.
  • NB traffic on Ordze Crescent wishing to turn left will detour via Wye Road and Sherwood Drive.

Sherwood Park Freeway eastbound traffic

  • Eastbound traffic will be detoured to 17 Street and 101 Avenue or 17 Street and Whitemud Drive.

Detour signage will be in place to direct commuters. Drivers may choose to take an alternate route this weekend to avoid delays in traffic.

  • Fines for speeding double in construction zones.
  • Using Alberta’s P3 model for highways allows Northeast Anthony Henday Drive to be finished in 2016, three years earlier than through conventional delivery and at a savings of $370 million for taxpayers.
  • The Alberta government has committed more than $4 billion toward the construction of the Edmonton ring road, including the northeast section, a $1.81 billion investment.
