As part of Budget 2014, Alberta is investing about $227 million this year for RCMP, including $5.9 million for 40 additional new frontline RCMP officers.

“This government’s commitment to protecting Albertans is clear. We are pleased to invest in safe communities by adding 40 new officers.”

Jonathan Denis, Minister of Justice and Solicitor General

As part of the Provincial Police Service Agreement (PPSA), the RCMP serves rural communities that do not have their own police services.

"This is a significant investment in the future of Alberta's Provincial Police Service. We appreciate the Government of Alberta's continued commitment to the safety and security of Albertans and the employees who serve them."

Marianne Ryan, Commanding Officer of the RCMP in Alberta

There are more than 1,500 officers currently in Alberta communities served by the PPSA. The RCMP has 112 detachments across the province, and is currently determining where the new officers are needed most.

Under the Building Alberta Plan, our government is investing in families and communities, living within our means, and opening new markets for Alberta's resources to ensure we're able to fund the services Albertans told us matter most to them. We will continue to deliver the responsible change Albertans voted for.
