New Assistant Chief Judge appointed for Central Alberta

Judge W. Albert Skinner has been named the new Assistant Chief Judge for the Central Region of the Provincial Court of Alberta effective October 1.

Judge Skinner was appointed to Red Deer Provincial Court in 2007. In the 28 years after graduating from law school at the University of Alberta in 1978, Judge Skinner practiced exclusively in criminal law in adult and youth court. At the time of his judicial appointment, he was Chief Crown Prosecutor for Red Deer.

“I’m pleased to welcome Judge Skinner to this position and am confident he will provide outstanding leadership,” said Alison Redford, Minister of Justice and Attorney General. “I also want to thank Justice Bast for her exceptional service during her time as Assistant Chief Judge.”

Judge Skinner will take over from Justice Bast who was appointed to Red Deer Court of Queen’s Bench on August 13, 2009. She served as Assistant Chief Judge for the Central Region since August 7, 2007.
