New Assistant Chief Judge appointed for Northern Alberta

Judge Eldon John Simpson has been named the new Assistant Chief Judge for the Northern Region of the Provincial Court of Alberta effective July 1.

Judge Simpson was appointed to the Provincial Court of Alberta Northern Region in 2003. Prior to his judicial appointment, he gained experience as partner with the firm Norheim Simpson and later as senior partner with Simpson, Thietke & Associates. He graduated from the University of Alberta law school in 1984. His term as Assistant Chief Judge is for five years.

“I welcome Judge Simpson to the position and know he will provide exceptional leadership to the Provincial Court,” said Alison Redford, Minister of Justice and Attorney General. “I also want to  thank Judge McIntosh for his outstanding service to Albertans during his time as Assistant Chief Judge.”

Judge Simpson will take over from Assistant Chief Judge J.R. McIntosh whose term expires on June 30.  Judge McIntosh will continue to serve as a full-time judge.  He served as Acting Assistant Chief Judge for the Northern Region since December 2002 and as Assistant Chief Judge for the region since July 2004.
